Good Early 1930s Vintage Oak Pedestal Work Office Desk
Surviving from around the early 1930s this twin pedestal oak desk with its flight of three drawers to one side and deep filing drawer topped by a single drawer on the other side is displaying its past well. You are able to see its history – nice wear to the edges and neat classically shaped handles on these smart looking panelled drawers, the top is historically marked which is to be expected. The frame is sitting firm on its 8 legs and the frame is nicely panelled to sides and rear. Both typing slides are working fine.
Workshop report – The desk is in decent shape having enjoyed a commercial office life rather than shed or barn stored, so smells fine. We have waxed the drawer runners and the rest of the frame – it possesses a good tone and grain- with a quality similar to Angus but no makers mark. The original burnt caramel coloured top does have day to day wear and a small number of small indentations but no rips or repairs – not unsightly by any means. It does have historic wear but nothing fresh – no repairs or wobbles, a few older ink stains inside like most but clean. Worth noting it is relatively heavy, the top will screw off but the rest of the frame is one piece.
A good quality English double pedestal desk surviving from the 1930s.
