These are a rather fascinating set of five large landscapes that have that ability to grasp a moment in time whether it be the attire and actions of the figures or the landscape in the distance.
We find them very attractive – yes they are showing their age but that in a strange way, adds to their appeal, allure, charm and also makes them very affordable!
All five offer us an insight into rural life in the early 19th century and we would assume that they are of a foreign country rather than GB. The landscape and figures within the five watercolours are not all from this country however we could be incorrect on this one.
The pictures are numbered on the backs No 1, 2, 3 & 5 with one, not numbered.
The watercourse have been mounted onto canvas and have faults (water damage) but the mood, colours and settings are mellow, warm natural, attractive and display some pleasing history.
1. Shows two female figures picking crops
2. Shows a small collection of cattle, tree and mountains in the distance
3. Shows three figures in a boat surrounded by trees
4. Shows cattle grazing
5. Shows a lake with men standing armed with sticks
As mentioned the pictures have faults, some water stains and the occasional tear and are a little frayed around the edges of the canvas. However they look good on a wall and we think add some good old fashioned colonial clout. A past Christie’s lot number sticker on the reserve of a couple of the watercolours could be worth some interesting investigating…
We think they are a smashing set and worth owning, a good talking point.
Please note the purchase price is for the set of five.
Dimensions – Height 64cm x Width 84cm
We include UK mainland delivery in the purchase price so you are able to relax rather than search for quotes or asking a friend of a friend to borrow a van! We use couriers who are user friendly, suitably insured and offer a full blanket service. Rest assured we will liaise with you once your purchase is complete. A contact number along with the order is useful to speed up the delivery process.
