Some pairs of chairs are just comfortable, possess true character, are easy on the eye, enjoy just the right amount of wear and carry a pleasing slice of class. We love this pair of chairs - right from the fine inlay on the frames through to the vibrant mustard/yellow gold fabric, they sing good quality without being too pompous!
Surviving from the early 19th Century they may have formed part of a larger set or maybe just a pair made for a specific client. The condition of both chairs is very similar – good, with no major repairs or unsightly defects. Of course with age comes knocks, taps and bumps however this is what makes them or any piece attractive and desirable. We have noted that there is an historic repair to the top rail at the rear however this is not affecting the use or look of the chairs. We much prefer to lightly polish, enhancing the age and marks rather than totally stripping the chairs of their history. The fabric is in good condition with no rips or stains and the seats are firm.
The frames have a good colour and there are numerous areas which are inlaid including the arms and top rail. We particularly like the Ionic style swirl at either end of the centre rail and the sabre legs. The frames are firm with no movement - so very much ready to enjoy, however please remember if you wish to own new, you’d best keep looking…
An attractive and comfortable pair of carver/elbow chairs showing their age very gracefully. They would fit in rather well into a hallway or maybe at a large window and wouldn’t look out of place in a modern apartment.
Dimensions - Overall: Height 81cm x Width 55cm x Depth 55cm
Dimensions - Specifically the seat: Height 48cm x Depth 45cm
